PROJECT SYNOPSIS
REVELIO aims at developing an adaptive visual communication system that enables robots to convey their intentions clearly to human workers in industrial environments. The project addresses Topic 3.2, Visual Cues for Enhanced Intelligibility, within the FORTIS Multi-modal Adaptive Human-Robot Communication Toolkit and the Robotic Intelligibility Toolkit. The system combines LED arrays, laser pointers, and micro-projectors. A computer vision system continuously assesses worker awareness. This perception data feeds into a Theory of Mind model that categorises workers into distinct cognitive states and the knowledge they have of the robot’s behaviour. Finally, a reinforcement learning algorithm then optimises visual communication strategies based on these states, learning which signals effectively capture attention without causing unnecessary disruption.
